When an engagement ends, who gets the ring?

Definitly the guy who bought it. UNLESS it was because he cheated/was abusive. Only exceptions.

That depends on when the ring was given. If it was a gift on a holiday, birthday or anniversary, the woman keeps it, however, if it was given purely for the pupose of proposal, he is supposed to get it back. I went to court ove rthis very thing actually. Because he gave it to me on my birthday, the judge said it was a "gift" and you can not ask for gifts back. Good luck!

I would say since its a symbol of promise for marriage if the proposal ends I say that they guy should get it back....although it can be sweet revenge to keep it if he was a flake :)

Once you give it to her. It's hers. Although technically you should get it back. Good luck prying that bad boy off of her fingers.

You should return the ring to the guy, it was bought on the condition, that you were getting married.

I think it should always be given back. It was given as a promise for an upcoming wedding/lifetime together which is no longer going to happen. If I were a man, I'd want it back because I spent my hard earned money on it, and as a woman, I would give it back because it wouldn't have any meaning anymore. What's the point of keeping it? Spite?

Legally, if the termination of the engagement is a mutual agreement he gets the ring, but if say the man cheats on the woman she gets it and vice versa. That's in Tennessee however.

well whos ever ring it is should keep it like if the guy bought and GAVE her a ring uts hers to do with what she likes...if she wants to keep it she can if not then he can have it back.my engagment ended and i kept mine but the 1 i gave him i kept, he offered to give it back

Depends on who calls off the engagement. If the girl calls it off - give it back. If the guy calls it off - KEEP IT, sell it, take a little vacation for yourself. You deserve it for the BS and humiliation he's put you through.

Since the ring was bought for the girl, she should have the choice to either give it back to the guy, keep it, or sell it.

If the sender is still paying for it, I would ask for it back. Let the person know that you could still return it. But if I was paid for in full, it's the receivers. You still can't expect to get it back regardless.
