• I AM HOPEFUL! I want the Isrealies to live in peace. I am a world citicen and I look at things from a world perspective. What is wrong with that? No solution in 60 years! ridiculous!

• Suby, I am not criticising the fact that you have hope, that you want things to change and you are cosmopolitan enough to see yourself as a world citizen. I share that view. All I am saying is that peace cannot be brought by Obama. Nothing new and groundbreaking has been promised - nothing that has not been attempted time and time again and failed time and time again. Peace must come from the Israelis and the Palestinians themselves... There is a long history of trouble in the Middle East, trouble which much predates the 60 years you speak of. That was, in many respects, a whole new round of trouble which was created by the interference of the West. We hold partial culpability.

• Leon Uris has been widely criticised for over-simplifying the situation in the Middle East. Further, he has also been criticised for prejudice and bias... While novels do have value for historical studies, they should not be taken as accurate portrayals of the facts of an event. This is especially true int he case of Uris who, while known for well researched historical novels, is not a historian, nor does he have any training in history.

  If I have learned one thing from my studies, it is that no historical text (especially those in the form of a novel) should be blindly accepted or read on its own. Even the most respected histories, with the greatest amount of documentation used to form the text, are full of bias and inaccuracies. This is why it is of importance to read in depth and width on any given subject, such as the founding of Israel and the history of the Middle East.

• Sorry Reptor, I cant agree with you. The 60 year conflict in the Middle East is nothing compared to the thousands of years long history of mankind.

• I don't like my answer either Suby, but that is what it will take I'm sure. there has been conflict for way more then 60 years Suby. Try thousands and that will be truer to the mark. The Whole war makes me sick, the things done in the name of religion makes me sick, my answer makes me sick. The kind of devastation I'm refering to will leave the region uninhabitable for thousands of years, hopefully by then mankind will be ready to unite under a common banner of love and peace, but not in our life times Suby.

• Its the intolerance that makes me sick. Reptor. We must always stdy history before embarking on any offensive. That Saddam Hussein's interpretation of history making Kuwait a part of Iraq should not be disowned totally, in my opinion. It is commercial interests that are taking over the world economy, if necessary by military means.
