For the record, my take even before this story is that Big Brother is both bad AND INEFFECTIVE! How does catching petty criminals stop terrorism? And what of the jail cells crowded by a man blowing another man in jurisdictions where such a thing is a crime when those cells could be better occupied by those actually harming others? Oh, and what of taxpayer dollars? Or do the self-righteous uber-cons need them in jail to justify their claims of outrageous government spending despite the fact that REAL criminals are walking free, many of them white-collar guys robbing our economy for their own personal gain? That is MY take on it, but I am interested in what others have to say on the matter.

I don't mind it. Because these cameras are used in a public place, a person shouldn't have to complain about "lack of privacy" as long as he/she BEHAVES in public. I'd rather give up some of my "privacy" (which I know is virtually impossible in public situations) for some security, and, although cameras may not "catch" bad guys very effectively, I believe they DO make people think twice about doing something bad. Some deterrent is better than nothing at all.
