I've been within a metre of deer quite a few times (I even ran into one once jogging), and just a few months ago I stood at my open window watching a kestrel a couple of feet below pinning down another bird, and attacking it. I did think about chasing it away, but at the ned of the day they have to eat just like any other animal, but it was quite strange to watch.

I sometimes get pretty close to dear when I go on a walk. Something like ten feet away, and then they flee into the woods. There was also a black bear that got pretty close to me when I went camping once. That sucked.

This is a question that is right in my ball park. I live in Northwestern Pennsylvania and ride my mountain bikes on logging trails in the woods. I have literally run into bears and came within 25 feet (about 4 meters) of a huge bear, probably close to 400 pounds. I was actually kicked (gently) as a doe jumped over me. I just missed the buck and a couple other does and the straggler is the one that jumped the big Ron. I have hunters tell me that turkeys are smart and elusive but I just missed running over a nest of them riding through the bushes. I just missed a fox a few days ago. He was sitting alongside the path and didn't seem worried about me and my bike. We are now having a fight with some pretty big raccoons. They seem to think our bird feeder is for them. My wife hit one with a broom and it just ignored her. I shot it in the butt with a BB gun and it took three shots before it ran off. We have more than out share of wild animals. I saw tracks a couple years ago that looked like a mountain lion. They are supposed to be extinct from our area but I have my doubts. With my luck, I'll hit it with my bike.
