Funny, I always liked Petty more. I went to one Springsteen concert in 1981 and I didn't get as excited as everyone else. Petty has been consistent and I've seen him live about 5 times. And Petty has been on the Simpsons;-)

Tom Petty is my choice. Why? Bruce has gotten preachy with his music and Tom it still laid back and has fun with it! Kinda shallow of me, but there ya go!
