  • I don't think they are forcing. Or if they are its news to me. We had options of Spanish or French. But in today's society it would be helpful to learn some Spanish. I took four years of it in high school and I can understand most things said. In college I know some majors you have to have a certain number of classes in a foreign language. But secondly I think it really does make an individual more well rounded. In learning the language, I learned the culture, and I was better able to appreciate it.
  • The little Mexicans need to learn English.
  • its messed up. it would benefit them if they got a job where being bilingual would pay more that would be good but if they are not going to use it later in life then why spend time learning it?
  • Who says their forcing it?
  • I think their doing it because in the future; we would never know what type of career or job we might have and to learn it just in case. Besides it's good to learn another languag. That's what I think.
  • We have french as a compulsory language here in UK in secondary schools (first 2 years I believe) I dont see any language teaching as a problem if it can be dropped eventually if the child dislikes it or has no talent for it. They may like it and have a talent for it and that may help future employment. I would not agree that it be compulsory all the way through school
  • I think all Americans should be required to learn another language, whether it be Spanish, German, French, Japanese, etc. Being multi-lingual is a good thing.
  • Any way of increasing children's communication skills has to be good. Being a good communicator, and having the abilty to communicate with different walks of life is vital in today's society :)
  • I think learning another language is something everyone should do. And it should definitely be enforced in schools. We had the options of French and Spanish, but yeah, learning a language is compulsory here too. For the first four years of secondary school. I did French for six years and loved it.
  • its just another socialist mandate...pretty soon, we will have to read the koran and the bible in church.
  • I think it provides them with the oppurtunity to make a dollar extra an hour differential in certain positions. What does it hurt to know another language? I know about 6 *Spanish is NOT one of them.
  • I think being an American is being able to understand and speak English. Separating us into two linguistic groups only serves to drive a wedge between us. Forcing the majority of us to learn Spanish is a slap in the face to the billions of immigrants who came here and learned English to assimilate. If they want to be Americans, they have a duty to learn English, if I wanted to be French, I would learn French.
