Why do people consider FallOutBoy and My Chemical Romance to be PUNK?

They're not emo... emo is like atreyu and stuff... mcr and fob are poppy punk rock....

because they are both the two biggest emo bands out there - probably in history actually :) :) I have to say i prefer fall out boy but my chemical romance rock too :) :)

Because this is the way the music industry has potrayed these bands. Pop- PUNK, so they assume they are punk. Punk is the Lcash, or the Sex Pistols etc... These bands are emo (or so to be labelled), I would however count Fall Out Boy as, pop-punk instead.

Who knows..cause they aren't! Anything thats played on mtv or the radio is about as far from punk as you can get..just ask Jello.

Punk Rock is the "anti-stablishment" music that comes chock full of angsty lyrics and tell-it-like-it is attitude. Someone decided that because these two bands, as well as many others, sing music with their "angsty" lyrics about wanting to finally move out of their parents house and break-up with their girlfriend at the age of 12, it's also punk. As if.

G'day Michael Appleyard, Thank you for your question. They have a punkish sound. They probably wouldn't meet the 1977 classification but things have changed. In the 1970s, you wouldn't have caught socialites/pop singers like Paris Hilton, Nicole Ritchie or Ashlee Simpson near members of a punk band. Possibly the Rolling Stones but not the Sex Pistols. However, the alternative has become the mainstream. Regards

Because they took element of punk in influence and added it to their own little (kinda emo) ways and were there by joined to the world of pop-punk (only not as good)- following in the footsteps of Green Day and the like...

Personally, i HATE HATE HATE fall out boy, so I just won't say anything about them... But as far as MCR goes, disregarding the fact that I'm a HUGE fan, their not "emo". sorry. The term "emo" needs to be stricken from the fucking English language. What a stupid word.
