You can ask around and see who has a good rep, or you can try them all on for size. When in search mode, I use all of them at once in the realization that they make their money only after you are placed. They also have a few thousand other people that they are trying to place too so don't get discouraged if they ignore you. Their services are only a small bit of what you need to be doing to find work.

By the way, I suggest staying away from any firms that ask you, as the candidate, for money. If you have experience that is in demand in your field, a recruiter can help you when you are in job search mode, but recruiters are only one source. You can find recruiters on the internet and in the phone book. The best place to find them is through someone you know that has had success with one. By the way, the best time to network is when you have a job so after you land the job, be sure to talk to people who call after you have found a job. Of course you don't want to jump ship, but you never know what will happen. There are no permanent jobs in the world.
