  • Artists would use models; however, women were not allowed to model, so many of the nude women were guess work. I believe that doctors would use dead bodies, but that was illegal, because to it is believed that to cut open the body or remove things from it will prevent the soul from entering heaven.
  • In 1543 (not exactly Renaissance) Andreas Vesalius made his work "De humani corporis", where he was allowed to perform surgery on bodies of people that were sentenced to death. And Leonardo da Vinci used to steal corpses from their graves to study them. Creepy!
