Yes, if the person ingesting the sugar is lied to, and told that it is a medicine, and if the person being treated has a psychosomatic malady. My mother used to "lovingly lie" to me about something sweet being a medicine, so whatever ache and/or pain I had would "vanish," and it always did, because I believed her, completely. +5

I heard a big spoonful of sugar mixed with a bit of hot or warm water is supposed to help stomach aches, but I've never tried it. I read about that in a book of herbal Chinese medicine. And we all know that sugar prevents the growth of bacteria----that's why candied foods take a lot longer to spoil than raw fresh foods.
