- Great link. Most would consider the transition elements as not belonging to a "main group", leaving 8 groups. As I said, there are many systems.

- point taken. it's been a long time since I did science, so I looked at a couple of sites and they were saying 18. that is why I said "there appear to be". but I defer to those who know much more than I.
