  • Look at all your games. If they aren't badly scratched or broke. You probably need a new PS2. Also you might try a cleaner disc.( make sure it is for game consoles.)
  • Your motor is most likely dead. Time for a new system.
  • me and my friend have the same problem and it was literally just working till we tryed to get one game working now it reads nothing, seriously it was working less then 15 min ago, except the one game Edit: It's the friend stated above. This PS2 is a v12 slim, bought in December of '04. It started slowly with the bad load times, and eventually stopped playing dual-layer DVD's, (GoW2, MGS2:Substance). I attempted adjusting the DVD pot to push more power to the laser, and now when we use any disc, the laser moves into reading postion, the laser flashes twice, and the motor attempts to spin the game. It spins maybe 1/4 or 1/8 of a turn, clicks, and repeats the process. The warranty's been up on the system for quite a while, so I'm not adverse to risky fixes, anything that squeezes another month or two of gameplay out of the system works for me. This is the third PS2 I've had, and they've all eventually met similar fates, so I don't think I'll be buying another Sony product anytime soon, just hoping to stretch this console until I can afford a Xbox.

  • yea same thing here this is my third one thats packed up but it still reads cd's and ps1 games but not dvd's or ps2 games
  • haha, i had the same problem and it's simple to fix. first of all.... do this at your own risk, etc... open up your ps2. open the part where the disc goes (the part that you need the tiny screwdriver for). on the right side, the will be a screw-looking thing. spin that and you will notice that the lens moves up or down. move the lens all the way up that way. insert disc, put cover back on. DO NOT SCREW BACK ON as you will have to do this everytime you turn your ps2 on. This is of course a temporary fix. The true problem: you see those 2 bars on each side of the lens? those need lubrication. i tried using hand lotion but that only worked for about 20 minutes and then got worse. there's a special white lard-looking thing that you can buy but I don't think you'll find it at Radio Shack. I had to get it from a guy that fixes stereos and I forgot to ask him where he got it from. Once you lube those 2 bars up, you're good to go! Now, all hail the ps2 genius!
  • Have you tried making sure the disk brake moves. it hits the disk when the lid is open and is supposed to move away when the lid is closed. It is activated by a piece of the lid and if it is not connecting properly the disk would spin but the brake would stay on, causing too much friction for the disk to spin properly. The brake is very small and touches the side of the disk, at the back of the disks surface, opposite the power button.
