I hope you can geg McAfee out of your pc then get AVG for free. Never had any problems yet.
Go with AVG Free. You go to their website, but be careful which download you take. You want the 'free version' NOT the 'free trial'. You will have to wade thru a few pages of ads trying to get your money, don't pay anything. The free version is just that, Free. It works great. Download and save to your PC. disconnect from the net, delete McAfee, then install the saved file - don't hook up to the net until after AVG is installed and asks you if you want to check for updates. I have been using it for almost a year without any problems. Easy, friendly to use, and very transparent. Gets a 5* rating from me.
Avast :]
AVG Free edition - it works great.
Personally, I use Avira - http://www.free-av.com/
It has amongst the highest marks of *any* AV program out there and is free.
zone alarm works very well.
Avira. Free and good. Top rated by Consumer Reports.
When my Norton ran out I bought Bit Defender. It gave me two years of protection for up to three computers and I bought it at Fry's for $39.99
Avast Home Edition. I use it on three computers; never had a problem; FREE. http://www.avast.com/eng/download-avast-home.html
I've used McAfee for a few years, seems good to me.
What kind of anti-virus software do you use? Are you content with it? Any spyware/malware programs?
