The manifest Art!
Creativity. Without it, even if you have a lot of talent, you're not an artist.
Having passion for your artistry.
An artist is a craftsperson who doesnt stop at creating something that is simply pretty, wonderful, interesting or well made etc. An artist continously pushes forward into the unknown looking for new ways to express 'ideas'. The idea is the concept behind the work and comes first. The artist then uses whatever medium is necessary to put his idea forward to best convey to his audience that which he wishes to say. Most artists wish to provoke their audience into deeper thinking through the work.
Their art, along with their ability and desire to create the art.
-Ability
-Personal drive for expression of ideas
-Personal drive to improve and continue to build one's skills
-People skills; the ability to present your ideas and communicate with others
Without any of these, I would argue one cannot be an artist. The recluse who paints alone and never lets anyone see his work, and then burns it all and dies, was arguably never an artist, just a madman with an obsession.
If you create for expression you create art.
To visualise past the point where the minds and sight of others will stop ...
"We can all see the painting on the wall, but only a few will see the art"

I like to think that it's the ability to express oneself in physical forms....whether that be dance, music, art, etc.
Contented critics.
Skill and heart
I'd say Imagination, without it u cant really make a masterpiece whether be it a painting, story or music
most of the best artists around and that were around were and are manic depressive extroverted individual that are otherwise total recluses ,odd balls with a genuious imagination that is constantly evolving. They normally hate the world they live in and a people phobic and live in a world created soley by themselves.
They have normally had f...d up childhoods, and as a result are normally alcoholics, drug addicts and confused lost souls. But all these things combines make them into genious artists, musicians, writers and actors.I should know,i am one...
In todays modern thinking you cannot be called an artist if you dont hold exhibitions of your work in reputable gallerys.

I can only draw and make decent art when I'm at home. Should I even bother with taking classes and possibly starting a career in art?
