  • If your serpentine belt is not worn and adjusted correctly there should not be a problem, make sure there isn't any grease around the belt and pulleys, check the belt for wear & tension. You can solve the problem forever and gain HP if you change over to a Gilmer belt drive, but this would be very expensive.
  • This type of noise is usually being caused by a glazed belt. This will be most evedent on the back side of the belt it will be shiney, check your pulleys to make sure everything is lined up and that you do not have any loose or broken mounts or brackets, if everything looks ok then just replace the belt, Goodyear gatorback usually works real good. Can get at most parts stores and doesn't cost you an arm and a leg either.
  • Check the belt tensioner.........
  • A glazed belt is right. If your poor and can not afford to replace the belt now, You can buy a belt dressing to spray on it for a temp fix. There is one last resort also. Take a bar of soap and touch it to the belt grooves VERY CAREFULLY while the car is running and the noise will go away for a couple of weeks or more. Remember this is only temp - If the belt has cracks or frays replace it as soon as possible.
  • I had this problem not too long ago. Brand new gatorback belt, professionally installed, etc. Turned the car on, used my ears to find where the squeak was coming from (belt tensioner), put a shot of WD-40 on it, and presto! That was 2 months ago and it is still perfect. Cheap, quick, etc. Just make sure that you spray it on the joint, not the pulley itself. Use the spray nozzle.
  • well if you cant afford 20 dollars on a belt then go to auto zone and buy belt dressing or use wd-40 it works for a bit, also make sure your tensioner and pulleys arent squeling
  • Watch out, Belt dressing normally makes serpentine belt noises worse. Try lubing the idler and/or tensioner pully first. Then replace the belt if the noise continues. Sometimes the idler and/or tensioner needs to be replaced to stop the noise.
  • spray some wd40 in the pulley bearings but just buy the belt
  • buy a belt they are cheap
  • I just to a local mechanic and they told me that using wd40 or belt dressing on a serpentine belt will just shorten the life and make the squeaking worse. I experienced that first hand and what they told me to do was power wash it and than sprinkle some ajax or laundry powder on it. The fine grains made it not stick so much which was causing the noise. It actually sounds quieter now than when I first got my car. Hope this helps!
  • Belt squeaks come from two sources: worn belts and faulty tensioners. Belt noises are characteristic, and are fixed by replacing the belt. If the sound persists after replacements, check the bushings on the tensioner idler pulleys for wear.
