  • Labels should be taken with a pinch of salt, however they are useful. Its not practical to ask every person every detail of their beliefs. When there are a lot of people who have a similar belief they are given a "label" to group them together. Grouping things into categories helps us predict how something might respond. It is an evolutionary skill. Once you have one experience with a snake you will probably link your experiences to every long and slithery creature to better aid in your survival. Names and labels are full of information, this information aids us in our understanding of a person, thing or a situation. However, since labels are gross generalizations we should take care not to make false assumptions [or be too rigid in our assumptions] based on a label. Most people do not fit any category perfectly.
