There might be a few here and there in the US yet. I read a news story recently, Feb. 2007, of one getting run over by a train in the switchyard in Nebraska. The fellow had evidently lived his life on the rails.

hobo is an old term for vagrant , but usually the hobos were mobile and moved from town to town. "Curb residents" usually stay in the same place.
