I think it has to do with the depth of and the style of the interactions. When women are friends they share deeply. Lots of talking, sharing of emotions, updates on their personal lives, etc. Lots of room for issues to form there. Sometimes it's hard to even tell if guys are friends based on their conversations. Men tend to "do" things together more than talk about how they feel. Less time and less fodder for complications.
