  • Ok, I know this is about a cat, but my answer is the same. My cat sits at the table in his own chair (I do not allow my cat on the table or counter tops like some cat owners do). If he puts his head on the table he gets put on the floor and he gets nothing. If he sits politely I give him scraps after dinner. While making dinner if he paws a leg he gets nothing, If he politely meows he gets a treat. Many people have commented that I have a well behaved cat. I believe a little spoiling never hurt but to much can create a bratty pet. It's up to you on where to draw the line. If you think your pet is good and deserves a treat, then go for it. If you feel your dog is a bit out of control and knocks you down just to get at treats, then you might want to consider being a bit more stern. Hope that helps +4.
  • How you treat your dog is entirely up to you. If you are happy to have him beg at your feet thats fine, but bear in mind that he will be likely to do this to anyone who eats in front of him, and it may not always be appropriate. Personally, I do not allow my dog to do this. Instead, I give titbits of veg when I am in the kitchen preparing meals, or else put treats into his bowl which he obviously associates with permitted food. Mind you, all this doesn't stop him sitting under the table when the children are eating!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  • I don't let them sit there. It's one thing when they do it to you but picture your guests having to deal with it. Better to never start than to try to keep him from pestering Grandma at dinner one day.
