To be fair they couldn't leave the movies as 2,3,4,5,6. They needed a 1, though they could have made it better

Very,they had to find darth vader and kill qui gin so he'll teach yoda and obi eternal life so obi could teach luke in a cool way,so the audience'll be entertained.

yeah, it was a good excuse for a lot of great special effects, and telling you how Anakin and Padme met.

I think the answer is yes. It told alot of back story. If George didn't make the film, this movie answers the questions we would be wanting the answers to.
