  • It's rare that dolphins bother to actually attack sharks, as far as we know, purely because sharks know dolphins can cause them immense damage if necessary. So, they'll steer clear of families with young for example. A strong vertical driven ramming from beneath the shark can cause fatal internal damage and in one recorded case a dolphin almost broke a shark in two this way. Data is not overly easy to come by as fish bodies will get eaten up by all the other fish in the open ocean pretty fast. Don't forget that large sharks successfully kill dolphins on occasion too.
