  • I don't drive though the night. I rent a room.
  • Last May I picked up my daughter from college... We rented a car in St. Louis and drove all the to California through sun, and snow in colorado and no sleep... I will never do that again!
  • When I was returning from a vacation in Mystic, Connecticut. It was raining, too. I don't do well driving at night and the wet roads increase headlight glare. I was miserable, but I made it.

  • When I moved down to Mexico alone several years ago. I got temporary residency and was pulling a trailer of all my household goods - you get a one-time importation of stuff tax-free. I didn't want to stop because I didn't have a way to secure the trailer. It was a 12 hour drive from the border to my house. Finally I could not drive any longer and I pulled off the road onto a shoulder, any shoulder I have no idea where I was. I slept for maybe 30 minutes and then woke up alert. Later I had to pull into a truck stop and sleep briefly again, but this time I was surrounded by idling diesel trucks and it felt safer. I made it safely but exhausted. They say driving all night is like driving under the influence, and I agree. My reflexes were awful.
  • About a month ago. My daughter is 14 hours away if I drive during the day. I've started leaving around 5 and getting there at 5AM. I'm a night owl and driving at night is great. No traffic or rush hour issues, nice and cool.
  • Right after July 4th weekend, drove from Houston to Mobile, 8 hours, was going to deliver eulogy to brother's funeral.
