Mild dish soap and vinegar in warm water tends to work the best but it will take a little bit of elbow grease if brake dust and road salt are on them. They have several specific wheel cleaners in auto parts stores.. some that require you only spraying them on and rinsing them off with a hose but they dont really work as well as getting down there and actually scrubbing them with soft washrag or sponge and really washing them.

Be real careful on what products you use on your rims. Especially if there aluminum alloy. A harsh cleaner will leave them looking cloudy and permanently stained. I learned the hard way. I don't use any detergent on my rims. I get HOT water or if you have too-- use polmolive liquid detergent. NO FANCY WHEEL CLEANERS.

use lime away for non chrome wheel. or clr for rims that has rust of becoming rusty....don't leave to soak for long...approx 5mins then spray with a powerful power sprayer like those in the car wash. works for me perfectly..i do mine every 2 weeks and it keeps the rims free of grime and rust.
