    Inventions and discoveries include: adhesive stamps; Bank of England; bicycle pedals; chloroform; the breech-loading rifle; the cell nucleus; colour photography; the cure for malaria; the decimal point; finger-printing; insulin; logarithms; paraffin; pneumatic tyres; radar; the screw propeller; tarmac; the ultrasound scanner; the United States Navy; vacuum flasks.     And don't forget Whisky. Blended whisky will get you drunk for sure but malt whisky is to be savoured. Many years ago I saw the label on some Japanese whisky that claimed to be made from "Genuine Scotch grapes."
