  • Honestly? I think it's about equal. I had friends growing up whose parents used food as a reward (= potential obesity) or as a punishment "Clean your plate!" (= potential anorexia) or other bad food habits. Still, I cannot ignore the pressure that women must feel looking at all the size 2 (and less) women that are held up as beauty icons, and the lack of large women that are seen as beautiful. GOod question!
  • My experience has been that it's more media/society, although I know there are parents out there who push their kids to be thin. But most of the girls I've known with eating disorders (I'm sure there are males who have it as well but I haven't met any) have developed them as a reaction to what they've seen in magazines and on TV and because of things said at school. Is overeating or food addiction an eating disorder? That I've seem come more from parents.
  • I dont think anybody cuases eating disorders besides the person who has them. ...Sure media and parents can be somewhat of a reason to start...but not in actuality. People, kids, girls...need to learn to rise above the "what ifs" the "looks likes"...and the "if onlys"...cuz if you look at the TV "perfect women"...and then look in society, there are few people who actually look like that, not cuz they are perfect...but becuase its a body type which is rare. ...I think its just low self esteem, anxiety...and really if I were to blame something on the disordres, it would be media...cuz we all know what the "perfect girl" looks like.
  • everyone I know who had an eating disorder had very loving parents.. so... I think in their cases it was pressure from the media or peers.
  • Yes, they set the example for their children
  • I would have to say Media. +5
