  • Because they are too insecure to go out and meet people in person. Therefore to insecure about something in their lives for a relationship (Not everyone of course)
  • Do you have any evidence to back this up? If you do then I would have to theorize that the internet is a great place to pretend to be something that you are not. The girl I'm seeing now I met on E-harmony but it occured to me that through that I could completly change and make myself someone else. I of course did not do this because I felt no need to try and make myself look better then I am.
  • Maybe the internet is just a "proving ground" before their first relationship. But, is it a good place to talk to strangers?
  • It's called commitment. It is human nature to look out for number one, and avoid having to actually consider someone else's feelings. Much easier to play it cool, get the sex and then clear out...sad but true.
  • A sizable portion of real world people are not ready for relationships; why would the Internet be different.
  • I think it has to do with skepticism. Online daters may be willing enough to put themselves out there online, but they may think that the chances of them finding a potential life partner are slim. If they're skeptical, then they're more likely to be a little reserved when it comes to actually beginning an online-dating relationship.
  • I think they use the internet as a place to test the waters. This is how I learned. I am going to be studying social informatics which looks a lot at how the internet effects sociology. It's an interesting field and I am eager to learn more about such phenomenons as myself, the people who spend their life and days on the internet.
