Nimrod didn't die with the Tower of Babel. With the confusion of tongues, and he being the 1st king & pontif of the world, merely inherited a name from each group victimized by the tongues of confusion and was still worshipped reverently by all. In many different cultures Nimrod was known by many different names. After Nimrod’s death, his name was changed to the ‘one who was greatly lamented over.’ To the Persians, he’s remembered as Tahmurs, son of Hoshang, builder of Babylon; To the ancient Hebrews, as Tammuz, the lamented one; To the Phoenicians in Assyria, as Adonis, the lamented one; To the Greeks as Liber or Bacchus, the lamented one; To the Romans, as Dionysus, the lamented one and later to the Norsemen as Balder, the lamented one.

1) One didn't "worship" the Greco-Roman gods. One honored and/or propitiated them to get good luck in return. 2) The pantheon was not like the NFL where you pick and root for your favorite team and/or player. You went with which ever one had cognizence of influence over the issue at hand. Favoring one while neglecting others was an invitation to bad luck and outright catastrophe... at least that's what the Greeks and Romans thought.
