  • Honestly I don't think we would. I think every person can choose where they want to put the "God did it" line, including out of sight. Evolutionists just happen to push the "God did it" line past the origin of species. Most atheists push it completely out of sight. But for most people I'm pretty sure seeing a giant hand reach down from the clouds and do some stuff would be adequate... so what's keeping him. If you aren't told a religion is true shortly after birth or some have some striking mental breakdown, religions pretty much seem like they make every excuse to keep themselves working and discourage the use of the word "why". Like, why doesn't God just show himself? Answer: Because he is testing you. Its like me telling you that there's always a magical hamster behind your head that moves with you so you can never see it. But I PROMISE its there and its testing you. Oh and you killed his son so hes kind of pissed.
  • It probably wouldn't. If a rock was poofed into existence by a god and a scientist picked it up with some others - then provided the god made it identical to the others, we probably would never know the difference. If a god poofed an animal into existence it would be the same - if the god in question was careful enough to mimic everything down to dna...
  • How can we define "natural processes" ? No matter what happens, it can always be called a natural process. That's why I'm not a dualist. I cannot comprehend or grasp a meaningful division between "natural" and "supernatural."
  • What kind of question is that? Evolution is a scientific theory and a fact, so it's rational to accept it. I don't see how this makes you an 'evolutionist' any more than a 'gravitationist' or 'relativityist'. And why does accepting evolution imply that one doesn't believe in supernatural things? Some scientists are actually religious!
  • This is an excellent question. Numerous times in history, something has come along that defied natural laws. The learned people of the day couldn't figure out what was going on. However, once we learned more about the world, we came to realize that it is all done by natural processes. - I don't think there is a mechanism to detect something supernatural because science has never had a need for it.
  • looks cooler than carlsbad caverns or the petrified forest. Some hand of god made creatures do it.
  • The burden of the proof is by those who make such claims. Science usually does not try to find things who were not the result of natural processes (or human experiments...). One field where some things are studied which don't involve known natural processes is parapsychology. Its status as science is controversial, though. "Parapsychology is a discipline that seeks to investigate the existence and causes of psychic abilities and life after death using the scientific method. Parapsychological experiments have included the use of random number generators to test for evidence of precognition and psychokinesis with both human and animal subjects and Ganzfeld experiments to test for extrasensory perception. While the results of such experiments are regarded by some parapsychologists as having demonstrated the existence of some forms of psychic abilities, the consensus of the scientific community is that psychic abilities have not been demonstrated to exist. Critics argue that methodological flaws may explain any apparent experimental successes. The status of parapsychology as a science has also been disputed. Many scientists regard the discipline as pseudoscience because parapsychologists continue investigation despite not having demonstrated conclusive evidence of psychic abilities in more than a century of research." • This question is too wide open to answer. There are always things that science does not understand - yet. So if we do not understand anything, is it because of a natural process we do not yet understand, or because of something supernatural. Other than with the eye of faith, how can one tell the difference? There are whole books written on things that science does not yet understand. But in a few decades we will understand more of them, just as we understand more now than we did a few decades ago.
  • Basically anything way out of the bounds of our theory and understanding would be a candidate. For instance, if a 1966 (style) Cadillac El Dorado were found in the Burgess Shale formation and it could be verified that it had been there since the neighboring fossils - that would be a great candidate. Even a fossilized modern animal like a dog would do. Or, if all suffering simply stopped tomorrow. That would be a good one. +5
