  • This reminds me of a story... When I was in Junior High, I had been given a weeks detention and never bothered to show up (hey, what gives them the right to determine my extra-curricular activities?). So on the third day of this, I was alerted by my best friend that the teachers had stationed themselves at all the exits from the school to ensure that I could not escape detention this time. Ah ha! A challenge! I easily eluded them. A couple of hours later, my Home Room teacher showed up on my doorstep to talk to my parents. My parents were informed of my disregard for authority and the teacher explained that I would be forgiven the detentions I had missed and wouldn't have to stand the rest, if I would tell them how I had escaped. I never told them. I stood the detentions proudly and defiantly. A couple of years back, I was visiting my Dad and he brought this up in conversation. Since over 30 years had passed, I had no problem telling him. Our school had change rooms that had an entrance both from the interior of the school (by the gym) but also from the outside (by the track field). The teachers had been posted to all the exits from the school including the one from the Boys Change Room. However, figuring that as a boy, I would never use the Girls Change Room exit, they had left that one unguarded. So as to your problem... I would stand tall and claim that "I do not recognize your legal and/or moral authority to impose an abitary punishment such as detention upon me." It may not work, but it's better than skulking around and whinning. And you'll be amazed at the way a story like that will spread around the school, possibly growing more impressive with each telling. Hope this helps. P.S. For those who say I'm encouraging juvenile delinquency... maybe I am but... ohh... ppfffffut!
