When to neuter your cat It is best to check with your veterinarian but usually some vets will recommend that the procedure be done when the cat is about six months old before the cat reaches sexual maturity. This may vary. Some cats will not reach that point until a few month later. In some cases, neutering must be done because of a medical condition caused by hormonal disorders or diseases of the reproductive system. http://www.geocities.com/catcare2000/neut.htm

Oscar, our little furball of delight was just neutered at the local SPCA. They asked us to bring him in before his balls dropped. He was three months old and he is doing beautifully. It is much easier on the males than females and it was hard keeping him still. They asked us to keep him quiet for ten days and sent us home with antibiotics and pain med in syringes. Uh.. he was up and going the next day. That was over a week ago. Good luck!

They now say that early neutering is fine, as early as 7-8 weeks,. IN fact they seem to handle the operation better than those done later at 5-7 months old.

Some vets will now do around nine weeks+ so long as they're healthy and weigh a Kilogram. Others will still wait until 5-7 months old.
