normally around mating season..males will also fight to be the alpha cat ,or ruler cat. Also may fight if you bring in a strange new one.

Two males on the prowl for the same female will invariably fight. Or if one invades the other's "territory". One may bluff the other out before it gets violent. A female with kittens will also put up a good fight.

I couldn't get your link to show up, but I've had cats that never fight, and one pair now, a mother and her 2 year old kitten how get along great most days and then all of a sudden he'll chase her around the house, biting her.
