  • It can be; you just have to learn to appreciate a book as a solitary work and a movie as a collaborative work.
  • Yes, on most occasions. You just can't capture the same atmosphere that you get from a book, in a film.
  • Actually I was quite pleased with The Lord of the Rings, one of my favorite stories.
  • Sometimes. The best books can't be crammed into a two- or even three-hour movie without sacrificing a lot of details and nuances.
  • If it sucks. Of course you hope that they do it right. All is never lost though because the book always still stands and can't be ruined by the movie.
  • Seriously, I haven't actually seen the movie of a book I loved, but I have read a few books of which I want to see the movie off now. For example, Twilight and Confessions of a Shopaholic!!! Although reviews may not have been great, that's for me to find out for myself as everyone's taste are different afterall...I know I don't actually answer your question but I thought I'll input this in.

  • Yes; I think the Harry Potter movies have badly let the books down. However, on the up, last night our family took one of my daughters to see this 6th movie in the series. I CAN say they are finally giving it worth something. MUCH better, in my view.
  • If you see the movie first and then try to read the book, the book is ruined. But usually seeing the movie after reading the book is entertaining. Loved the movie Pride And Prejudice and thought it did great justice to the book.
  • Dune. 'Nuff said.
  • Yes, I found the film Marley and Me so disappointing after reading the book. The same goes for Brick Lane too In both cases I enjoy the book immensely but found the films mediocre However, conversely I could never get into the book Captain Corelli's mandolin but thoroughly enjoyed the film
  • I was not disappointed at all to see the book "Love Story" made into a movie. The book was great, but the movie was fantastic. "Loving someone is never having to say you are sorry."
