  • Great question! Makes me work on my mind. Well ... let me think. Assuming self is the person, the one who think he knows all and wants all, circumstances/instances is the mirror that reflects the true nature of a person. The reflected thing is his character(which is his selfishness and ego). Time is the witness for all :) In my humble opinion.
  • All these beautiful metaphors are entirely dependent upon an object for their existence and provisional meaning. Self needs that which is "not Self", the reflection needs the reflected, True Self needs something like an illusory "untrue Self" and The Witness must have that which is witnessed. This affirms that all is entirely within consciousness and nothing whatsoever is without. So then, all that I am able to do here to sort through this, is to investigate to the end, that which I am Not - which it turns out - is any of these things if any of them are thought to be or have independent existence. All I can find within any search with integrity is that the witnessing is arising, but no independent witness is present. It is clear that the thing being sought, in any case, is the same as that which is seeking. In this, there is no room for the mind to divide and enumerate. The mind just cannot understand this and yet, there is no other place for this to happen - in consciousness. Thanks very much! Oh yes....Who is NOT the witness? Great question!
  • first of all i am really an ignorant man & not an authority to answer this question real nature. Means i have heard & read about nature of the Self, but not yet realised & don't know how many lifes it will take. . . .the things which are come to my mind are. . Shri Ramkrishna Parmhansa says an its like an idol of salt which goes to me salt goes to measure the depth of the sea, but in the process it itself got dissolved in sea water. Then who will tell the depth. It means when we realise our self, then our little ego gets vanished. Its like explaing taste of Sugar in words to other, which can't be explained but can only be realised. . . Last i( the ignorant one) want to say the nature of Self is infinite, it can't be put into words.
  • I would say your Soul is the witness
