Does anyone know if it's possible to become an author in South Africa if one does NOT write about something historically related to the country or a detective/ crime story?

Anyone can become a published author in South Africa, but whether or not they are SUCCESSFUL at it, is another thing, entirely. +5

J. R. R. Tolkien was born in South Africa, I believe, and his books are big all over the world. They weren't about South Africa at all, and they certainly weren't detective/crime stories. I hope that helps.

Since as writers we are not limited by our location, physical stance or general circumstances, but more by finding a Publisher that publishes the TYPE of story we have written....I would have to say YES, it is entirely possible to become an author in South Africa and write about whatever suits you! You can write in Timbuktu and publish in New York or Kathmandu!
