Yes, the Loma Prieta 'quake:

I was nowhere near the epicenter but I was close enough to get one hell of a shaking (when you look out and see the parking lot do the "wave" it is a big quake) and we had quake damage in my city.

  I had lived in California most of my life so my roommate and I just sat on the couch as it hit. I said to him "this is a big one, isn't it." He said "yep." We waited it out and, when it was over, the neighbors and us all went from house to house checking on everyone, helping where needed. We all started to REALLY worry when we realized that ALL communication was shut off to San Francisco. When the power came on and the news reports came rolling in that did not help our worry.

Yep.

Hurricane Huge in Charleston, SC in 1989.

Earthquaked in Seattle, WA in 2001.

A few odd tornados.

Some flooding.

- Do you mean Hugo, the category 5? I was in Maryland for a category 1 (Isabel, I think) and was cowering in the basement... it sounded like a train was running over the house. My ex and her mother were upstairs chatting like this was any other day, my ex coming down to check on me every now and then. She tried to not giggle at the cowering 6'2" guy who was sure the house would be ripped off from over him.
  .
  Being the consummate California boy, I sailed through the Loma Prieta quake and, to me, earthquakes are normal but no NO NO! hurricanes or tornadoes!

- Yeah, the Cat 5 hurricane! I should have gotten one of the local T-shirts going around at the time as a keepsake: "HUGO: THE 4.5 BILLION DOLLAR BLOW JOB"

  The Loma Prieta quake...that was the big one that hit right after Hugo hit the Charleston area, right? I remember reading an article about a Sailor who went through Hugo in Charleston, and then right afterwards went to California and was in the big quake that hit out there!

  All I could think about him at the time was how much I DIDN'T want to end up stationed with him somewhere!

- Heh! That's funny about the basement thing! I remember growing up and staying in the basement for severe storm/tornado warnings. I wouldn't have laughed at you at all, knowing what tornados can do!

Yes, my marriage. Other than that, I was caught in the middle of a tornado while driving a car. I pulled over but getting home I had to drive over live electrical wires while dodging down trees & poles. I don't ever want to do that again.

Good Lord, yes, many times. I have been in not one, but two tornadoes and several hurricanes including Rita and Gustav. I have some footage of Gustav but it is on sidewalkchalk's computer.

We get a lot of tornados, and in...1992 i believe, my father was at work and my mom and i were in a car.

We drove to his work, since we were only 4 minutes away, and waited it out in there. We we were fine, the car was torn to pieces.

Yes, I was a survivor of the 1976 Big Thompson Canyon flood in Colorado. The flood took 143 lives that night. I certainly picked the wrong day to go fishing!

Hurricane Gustav kicked the ass of my new hometown not long after I moved here.
Where I'm from tornadoes were fairly commonplace but I was never severely or drastically affected by either.
Inconvenienced? HELL yes.
but I count my many blessings I never lost anything of tremendous significance, especially a loved one.

yes. we have been through 2 floods and lost a lot but the cleaning after was terrible but 1 more flood and than I have degree for cleaning up after a flood.

this is a duplicate, but, yes, I have been through at least three earth tremors and a severe hailstorm that wiped out all the western windows in our street and destroyed our gutters.
