Any musician who understands western art music, music theory, and has ear training can learn how to play jazz. This is what John Coltrane said and from this he used some of the progressions borrowed from early Renaissance compositions. However, if you can learn to analyse music you will discover what his chord progressions are. Links? I will look for some for you.
