• Why, Merriment? So they will be well covered after you smash one of them over the head with a toaster? Merriment, these are kids, trying to pay their way through school! They don't make the products. Oh, they are insured. As a matter of fact, Wal-Mart has one of the best employee health insurance plans going. It puts most all other corporations to shame. Whatever else you may think about them, you have to give them that. Ask an employee and compare yours to theirs....

• In my area the average age of employees is about 40! Hardly kids working their way through school. Some are insured, far more actually qualify for government funded health assistance. I have talked to many employees who are far from happy with their Walmart health insurance if they have any at all. And their coverage doesn't hold a candle to mine. Personally, I don't think Walmart cares about it's employees only about the bottom line in profits. They do sell a cheap toaster, though!

• Well, you are fortunate. I don't know who you work for, but Wal-Marts insurance is better than my company's. As it happens, I am with the Veterans Administration, so mine is probably better than anyone's. All my medical is covered. I have only had to use it once, for a hernia surgery. But, it is good to know it is there. And I definitely earned it. I certainly paid my premiums...in Vietnam. Anyway, not trying to argue. I worked for many retail chains in my younger days, and Wal-Mart beat the hell out of all of them for treatment of employees and benefits. You don't hear much about the others because they are not as "obvious" or widespread. Wal-Mart is numero uno, so it takes all the hits. But, how did it get to be that? It beat the competition. And beat them at their own game. Bill Walton did not invent any of Wal-Mart's policies or practices. He just used the existing ones and did better at it. And that is a fact. I know. I have worked for some of the others.

• Yeah, but you know it would not be accurate, Cipher. Nobody tells the truth on surveys. Everybody "hates" Wal-Mart, but everybody keeps going there..and buying...and buying. Why? Because they are the best deal around for simple necessities.
