  • The study isn't all that encompassing and has much room for fault, such as "Also, women are paid less than men, making such things as paying bills and credit card balances harder, she said." I wouldn't take a single internet article to heart as fact.
  • Hmmmm. Very interesting. I'd pay down debt. My s/o would buy more shoes.
  • Well it was a study done in New York only so does not look at the rest of the world so therefore can not be said of all or even most women. I have been married for 24 years, for the first 15 years I took care of the finances, all bills were paid on or before time. Now my husband does it and we can often be late. I don't think you can generalise.
  • I doubt it. If there is some silly statistic that says this, there has to be a reason that is not in this equation, like the bills were in the man's name, the woman figured the checkbook out and the man gets the credit. My mom was the billpayer in our family and still is. It has nothing to do with the sex organs. My mom is a Virgo and they always pay the bills on time.
  • The article actually kind of contradicts itself. The title is "Men are Better at Paying Bills" but an excerpt says: [[Women tend to be less educated in personal finance, said Manisha Thakor, a Houston-based finance expert for women...Personal finance is not typically taught in schools and, while men may learn it in their traditional roles as providers, women do not in their traditional roles as caretakers, she said.]] --- So - as so often happens with broad assumptions - it is not because of natural differences in ability, but rather, differences in societal values and expectations. If women were more commonly 'expected' to know about personal finance and men were more commonly 'expected' to know about caregiving, they probably would.
  • completely disagree..however, men are better at providing the funds of which said bills are to be paid..
  • Lol well my husband maxed all his cards and I payed them all off. He spends his whole pay check in three days and so now I have to take his whole check and give him an allowence. My mother also controls all the money and is an accountant and pays all the bills for three of my dads businesses so I guesse Im not "bitching" but this is not always true.
  • How does the saying go? Oh yeah. "Men earn and women burn."
  • Its funny to see you ladies getting so angry whenever someone says men are better, lol
  • It's self-reporting, silly, which is notoriously inaccurate. So men answer the way they think they're SUPPOSED to, "oh yeah! I pay off ALL my bills EVERY month!" Check! *Groan*
  • Hmmm...If this is so true then how come I'm still paying all the bills? and oh I'm a lady btw...:D
  • whoever did that survey, did not come to the dominican republic. Here, men are the sole providers of sperm and physical and emotional abuse, period.
  • This makes sense. Society has put men in the financial power seat for much longer than it has women. If you read the article carefully, it pretty much points to the fact that women are not as financially literate and not as financially empowered as men. I think it's due to social roles that stipulate finance as a man's domain, and also lack of financial education (even fear) on a woman's part.
