I have a niece that earns well over $50,000 a year and will soon move up the pay scale and earn much more than that in a couple of years. She teaches music.Teachers are the ones that teach the young and should be payed very well for their services. Also if a teacher is payed well they will be more apt to care about what they do,as appose to barely making a wage.

That may well be the case in USA, but not in UK - unionised teachers in UK have exactly the same pay and conditions as non-unionised teachers - these are contained in the Scool Teachers' Pay and Conditions Document - and can only be varied for independent or private schools. That government defines what our conditions and salary etc are - not the unions. However the unions work towards making sure that schools abide by the document, and do not go against the spirit of the document - they do this for all teachers - whether they are in a union or not - but can only provide individual representation (eg in disputes) for members of their union.
