  • Most likely because they want to be a better person. This is not always a bad thing. As an extreme example, what if the leaders of the Irish Republican Army had had the personality of Ghandi? What if their campaign had been conducted only through nonviolent uncooperativeness, rather than bloodshed? How much better would life in Ireland have been during those years of conflict?
  • Because they are lacking in self-confidence and feel insecure about themselves. The other person probably display personality traits that appear to be the exact opposite of their own.
  • Mainly due to low self-esteem and low self-confidence. In many cases, a shy, introverted adolescent will envy an extroverted, funny, and socially strong adolescent. It is natural. They see what others have and see what they themselves don't have, and then they learn what causes the people they envy to have what they have, and it all ends up to wanting the other's personality.
