  • No, nor will it ever be.
  • THATS A LAME LAW
  • Only when you have an accident and have to pay the hospital bill yourself!
  • What? No. Nor is there any plan for such a law. Don't believe the rumors.
  • no lol.
  • No, Payton, it's not law YET! But you can well be sure that this Administration and its clowns in Congress have all kinds of "free stuff" being dreamed up. Maybe, just maybe, we'll be able to turn the socialist tide in 2010. +5
  • I do not think any government in any country could make personal insurance by its citizens legally compulsory. The governments could offer free health insurance to all people same as free education etc.
  • Well when we get "universal health care" for all citizens than we'll all be covered!
  • Not yet, but it's coming. It's been proposed by the new administration the same as when Hillary proposed it last year. Now they're taxing your employer sponsored coverage. don't worry, it's coming.
  • Be patient...soon you will have men in greatcoats with Lugers in their belts asking for your papers...
  • This law is still being seriously weighed. Democrats had to allow it in, in order to be able to omit recission for pre-existing conditions. Nothing is conclusive yet. Congress is still hashing out the overhaul of healthcare that effects you and me.
  • I'm sure it will happen in the near future.
  • A thousand? I last heard the fine would be $3800 for not carrying "free" health insurance.
  • so if a homeless person has a healthh insurance but no home will they be fine for living on the street as well?? I admit that is the part I do not get at all about this health debate..... I wonder who to pay first the moratge or health insurance
  • No... I know though if the tax on universal healthcare is passed though each person owes 800 dollars and if they cant pay it fined up to what? 10,000? not sure...really. But I dont think they can fine a person for not having health insurance, its not their fault if they are to broke.
  • We should not be using the term "universal health insurance"! it is not forced upon the nation! It is called health reform now..and for good reason...as of now nothing is absolute...it is being debated and deliberated...we can only wait...I do wish that rumors would stop floating around...from both sides...ridiculous things I've heard...
  • This was proposed by Senator Baucus (?) and is already so unpopular he'll be lucky to have a Senate parking space next year. If this is anyone's idea of a "compromise" we're in trouble. P.S. Health insurance companies donated 3 million dollars to Baucus's last campaign.
  • Wow, what an ingenious idea for a way to make health care more attainable for all. Tax those who don't have jobs with the government or corporations who provide health insurance tax free. Is this a great country or what? How much money do insurance companies give to politicians anyway?
  • The 'fine' (read tax) would range from $980 for an individual up to $3800 for a family of 4. No one would be getting free health care, the tax would be for anyone who didn't go out and buy insurance if they didn't have tax free coverage from an employer or weren't on Medicaid or Medicare. However, a tax credit would be available for medical cost over 13% of your annual pay. So if you make $30,000 per year and spent over $3,900 on medical costs per year you would get some kind of tax credit. There, healthcare reform is resolved, tax those who don't already cough up to the insurance industry.
