"Adj.1 irrefutable - impossible to deny or disprove" How can you say scientific evidence is irrefutable? I wouldn't say anything is irrefutable especially when it comes to science. We are sill learning and correcting mistakes made by early science all the time. Like global warming there are scientific facts that prove and disprove that also. The only thing that is irrefutable is the fact that we are all human and humans make mistakes. Man created the "unsinkable" ship in 1912 and it was on the bottom of the sea in less than 3 hours killing around 1500 people. Ooops!

The only way to believe in creationism is to disbelieve in science. Indoctrination is such a powerful force that even some of the most intelligent people on the planet have succumbed.

Simple folks think of science as just another set of beliefs, like "Do you believe in fairies? and "Do you believe the earth is 4.5 billion years old? For these folks, reality is whatever their bible and their preacher says it is.

There is not irrefutable evidence in science. Science is not about true and false. Science is about how likely is something. When, in science, there is an overwhelming amount of evidence, it becomes very tempting to call it "the truth", since it gives you a feeling of closure. If you want irrefutable truth then you either need mathematics or religion. But to answer your question, they can ignore the "science" because a) it's over their heads, and b) there's no reward for believing it, whereas there is a big (perceived) reward for ignoring it.
