I think it is nonsense since it isn't asking a question either about something factual or about your opinion on something. It has no purpose therefore serving of no function.

I think they are just people who have fallen into a trend that if we don't encourage will most likely stop soon. I answered in one and it was only as a slightly snide remark as to all of them. The question was "Do you remember when _____?" I said "Do you remember when all these questions turned into fill in the blanks?" *or something similar*.
