  • that is a gross generalisation on the part of latino people. In my experience, adult immigrants are often working shift work and double shifts, perhaps two or more jobs (because wages are low)...when do they get the time to study? it is the children who learn. that is always the way of immigrants. Go to the other communities you speak of and find the first generation...few of them have fluency in English because they had to work to survive.
  • Don't you think that's a bit rich, considering the amount of spelling mistakes in your question? Make sure your own backyard is tidy before peering over the fence and commenting on the state of others.
  • This question assumes things that just aren't true. Saying that all mexicans will NOT learn English makes no sense... do you know ALL Mexicans? First, you should look in the paper or local rags and find out how many free English courses are offered. Then take a trip to one of them and you will probably find it completely full- sometimes with people sitting on the floor. More likely than not you will have a hard time finding more than one or two classes, because not many people do anything for free. I know what you will say. "Why don't they just pay for English classes?" Do you think if they had the spare money laying around they would have illegally come here to work a minimum wage job 6-7 days a week? And since they are working constantly, someimtes 10+ hours a day it's not likely they will have the time to take classes or that they will be able to find a class that will work with their schedule. Other people who come to the US are not usually seeking refuge, they are privileged people here because they can be- and they can afford to study foreign language. The people from other countries who ARE here seeking a better life come from places that are very far away: Asia, Africa, Middle East. They cannot just wait for an opportunity to cross the border and take it. (If they could we would have just as many of them moving here.) The only way they get to come over here is if they go through programs that prepare people to move to the US- language courses, job skills and placement, US history and government classes. There are also people who go this route from Mexico, but only so many people are accepted into these programs and allowed entry. If you compared the Mexicans who do this then you would find they are similar in number to the Asians, Africans, etc who do the same.
  • Shame on you. That spelling!
  • Perhaps for reasons similiar to "Why do many natives not learn to write English?".
  • Let me answer the question with a question. How do you know Mexicans or in your terms "illegealls" refuse to learn English.
  • Just one small point here... Americans do NOT speak English, they speak American. Can you spell "flavour" or "colour"? There is a HUGE difference between English and American language!
