  • It's definitely Old School. Today's political machines are basically two wings of a single raptor feeding off of the uneducated masses that are supposed to be their masters. It's really more helpful nowadays to look at a person's leanings on an Authoritarian/Libertarian axis rather than a simple Left/Right axis that gets muddled too easily.
  • I think there should be one other axis on the graph. 'Authoritarian and liberal' (the latter word not in the sense it is used in America). So it would be possible to be left-wing and authoritarian (Stalin) or right-wing and authoritarian (Hitler), or the liberal versions of those (which are more difficult to list, because they make less noise in the world.) Perhaps Ghandi for the left-winger. I am sure there is a corresponding right-winger, but at the moment I can't think of one.
  • i would say people in general fall into the left wing right wing scale, but to all people absolutely not
  • It's a useful lens but it is an oversimplification. As Prunesquallor points out, other axes would provide more information.
