Try looking at this question: http://www.answerbag.com/q_view/133047 Yes, they can pinch run for him and they WOULD have to pinch run for him, contrary to other answers; if you didn't have to round all the bases for the home run to count, then players wouldn't bother - they would just slug the ball out of the park and walk back to the dugout. This shows that they HAVE to round all bases, and will only be given credit for any base that they touch. So he if he turned his ankle rounding first, he would be credited with a (very long!) single and a PR would come in to stand on 1st.

A run scores each time a runner legally advances to and touches first, second, third and home before three men are put out to end the inning. (OBR Rule 4.09a) When a batter hits a home run, he is "awarded" four bases - but there is no "automatic" run scored. The batter must still touch all the bases. If he does not, he is subject to being called out on a proper appeal by the defense. The offense can sub for the injured runner, but the sub must complete the trip around the bases.
