  • I have no idea...blllechh! Meat smoothie
  • I can only speak from our family. We know those things, and therefore do not eat them.
  • So tasty.
  • Actually, it depends on the hot dog. Your twelve to a pack economy wienies, eeeeuuwww. But there are some really great hot dogs out there made from "real" meat. As for the nitrates, unless you are a migraine sufferer, the "danger" is minimal. The carcinogenic material caused by heating them has been counteracted since the 70s by the addition of Vitamin C or E (in tiny amounts), not for their vitamin content, but for their properties inhibiting the formation of the carcinogenic chemical. The bottom line is that wienies are too fatty, in general, and still have too much sodium, in general, much like most processed meats. But as for the nasty bits, you do get what you pay for.
  • Because they are cheap and easy. My father doesn't want to be on my mom's diet, so he eats a lot of them. *gag* Recommendation? Get Kosher hot dogs. They're much more restricted on what actually constitutes meat. (One slim summer I had a coupon for BOGO on some turkey hot dogs. God only knows that turkey hot dogs are probably made of the wattles and the meat on their scrawny shins, but at least it was a break from eating eggs for protein.)
