Ass is an American bastardization of the English slang word: arse! Arse just sounds better. Why does it matter which one you use though?

we british say arse and we got hang to it. american people say ass. And to be known american and british got different english.

Because we're British. Unless we're from the West Country we generally lack audible "r"s at the end of words, so we like to stick them in the middle instead. And "arse" sounds way better in a British accent than "ass", believe me. Plus "ass" also means donkey. Which is confusing.

If you are British, then arse means backside and ass means a type of wild donkey.

For the same reason that those of us who say, "arse" don't say, "fanny" when referring to the same part of the anatomy. Because we are from different cultures, with several hundred years of language evolution since we fully shared a common language.

The yanks say "ass" instead of "arse" because when a british person says "arse" they think it's "ass" pronounced with a long A.

because they are stupit.....I know it is stupid.....not stupit...but that is the way I always seem to say that word.....we are all types of people with our own idiosyncrasies....
