It's shocking that someone can change the world, alter dance and music video and overall entertainment forever, inspire countless artists, have humanitarian work that has saved countless lives, and be remembered for one silly stupid parenting mistake where no one got hurt. It's really true that celebrities aren't allowed to be human and make mistakes like everyone else. If you watch the real footage, the baby incident was SO fast. The press slowed it down so it looked longer, but it was an instant and the baby was firmly held. How many parents throw their kids up in the air or do a million things that could have resulted in injury all the time? No one should be judged on a mini-second of their life, especially when they gave so much of themselves and accomplished feats no one else could. I'll remember Michael for the impact he had, not for an over-hyped silly second.

I've often struggled with separating the artist from the art. Whether it's Michael Jackson, Roman Polanski or Richard Wagner. I vacillate frequently but tend to lean towards the side of judging the art on it's own merit. After all, if we took the work of all the pervs, anti-semites and assholes away, there wouldn't be much left to hang on your walls or listen to on your ipod or watch on your TV.
