In addition some 'margarine' spreads have some very necessary fats and acids which can help actually reduce cholesterol. On the other hand, butter is more "pure". I watched a segment in a show the other night comparing the two and the conclusion was that 'margerine' spreads were definitely the healthier, if less tasty, choice. The best option then, is to have neither butter nor margerine but olive oil or sunflower based spreads.
